Variety Girls & Boys Club of Queens

Who are we? At the Variety Boys & Girls Club, we believe every kid deserves a place to belong after the school bell rings. We proudly serve the communities of Long Island City, Woodside, Jackson Heights, and Astoria. Every day, our passionate and caring team shows up ready to welcome the future engineers, teachers, artists, chefs, and creative innovators of Queens through our doors. And the best part, it's all completely free, because every child in Queens deserves access to quality after-school programs. 

Our new Hunters Point Community School location marks an exciting new chapter for Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens. This new space will expand our ability to serve children, families, and the surrounding community with meaningful educational, recreational, and enrichment opportunities.

We’re excited to grow our presence in the community and create a welcoming space where young people can learn, connect, and thrive. Stay tuned as we share more updates from our new location and all that’s to come!

Why After School? We use a model that focuses on homework assistance, enrichment exploration and incorporates ongoing social emotional skills development. We help keep students on track and recognize them for their hard work. These supports assist our students on their road to college, developing their self regulation, grit, persistence, and study skills. 

When does the program start? Typically the program starts shortly after the regular school year. Stay tuned for start dates for the 26-27 school year.

How much does it cost and where does it take place? This program is FREE for all HPCMS students and takes place everyday at HPCMS.

What does a typical day look like? Each day students start with a snack and a small group community building activity. Following snack, students participate in either physical education, arts and crafts, or STEAM depending on the day. In the past, classes included subjects such as: World Cultures, Young Peoples Empowerment, American Sign Language, Dance, Art/Design, Robotics and more.
