Who are we? 82nd Street Academics is an independent community-based organization that has partnered with HPCMS for the last several years to offer comprehensive after school programming. The mission of 82nd Street Academics is to assist students on the road to college, regardless of their home language, by complementing the public school system. 82nd Street Academics has been providing after school services in Queens for the last 19 years. With this wealth of experience, we are able to implement programs that are responsive to the needs of our students and that extend their learning after traditional school hours.

Why After School? We use a model that focuses on homework assistance, enrichment exploration and incorporates ongoing social emotional skills development. We help keep students on track and recognize them for their hard work. These supports assist our students on their road to college, developing their self regulation, grit, persistence, and study skills. 

When does the program start? Typically the program starts shortly after the regular school year. Stay tuned for start dates for the 20-21 school year.

How much does it cost and where does it take place? This program is FREE for all HPCMS students and takes place everyday at HPCMS.

What does a typical day look like? Each day students start with a snack and a small group community building activity. Following snack, students participate in either their leadership class or choice class depending on the day. In the past, leadership classes included subjects such as: World Cultures, Young Peoples Empowerment, American Sign Language and more. In the past, choice classes have included subjects such as: Dance, Art/Design, Robotics and more. Following leadership or choice class, students have literacy and homework time
