Grade 8 Announcements

Dear Families,

We hope you are doing well and staying safe. We are planning the end of year activities for the Class of 2021! Our goal is to celebrate their hard work, find chances for graduates to come together, and give students the opportunity to say good-bye. The week of June 21 will be filled with a mix of virtual and in-person events to remain safe during Covid.

Activities the week of June 21 (please know this is subject to change):

  • Monday, June 21 Virtual Graduation Practice during the school day

  • Tuesday, June 22 Virtual Senior Fun Night at night

  • Wednesday, June 23 Virtual Graduation 10AM

  • Thursday, June 24 In-person celebration and pick up of diploma, t-shirt, yearbook by Pod

  • Friday, June 25 Virtual Advisory Meetings - 8:45AM

Every student that meets promotional criteria is a part of all activities and celebrations.

We are asking families to contribute $45 dollars to cover the cost of a yearbook, t-shirt and diploma case for each student. Payments are due on April 15, 2021. To make a payment you can Venmo your payment to @HPCMS-PTA or Check and money orders must be made out to HPCMS and brought to the main office or mailed to HPCMS ℅ 8th Grade Activities 1-50 51 Ave. Long Island City, NY 11101. Cash payments must be brought directly to the main office.

We understand that the pandemic has caused financial hardship for many of our families. Please understand that all graduating students will receive materials even if families are unable to contribute the full amount at this time. Any family able to donate above the suggested $45 will help cover the cost for another 8th grader. If you are able, please consider doing this.

Caps and gowns are not mandatory for the Virtual Graduation or in-person celebration however may be worn at these times if you wish. If you would like your 8th grader to have a cap and gown please use this link to purchase one and have it shipped to you directly.

The end of the school year is a wonderful time and we hope that your 8th grader feels that wonder even during this crazy year.
