2020 High School Results

Thursday March 19, 2020

Dear 8th Grade Families,

High School results are now available to view in MySchools. Offer letters will include each student’s high school offer and/or Specialized High School results, if applicable. Offer letters will also include a list of programs where each student has been waitlisted.

OSE will email families that they can log into MySchools (www.myschools.nyc) to view their child’s offer. OSE will also call families who do not have MySchools accounts to let them know that their printed offer letters are in the mail. We understand that this is a big day for students and families looking toward the future. Ms.Munoz and Ms.Ortiz will be providing student outlets to share their feelings through Zoom as a needed basis for any child or parent in need of additional support during this time.

Distribution of High School Offers

If you have any questions or concerns after receiving the results or if you can’t access them online, please sign up to meet with a school staff member for guidance and support on Monday, March 23rd between 12:35 and 4:00. Please sign-up for a 10 minute appointment via this LINK (https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/3235303/false?popup=true#/invitation ). Ms. Ortiz or Ms. Krant will then call you during your designated meeting time. If you have difficulty signing up for an appointment, please reach out to Ms. Ortiz for help. Ms. Munoz will also be available to have meetings in Spanish from 1pm- 3:20pm with this LINK (https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/3235344/false?popup=true#/invitation )

Information on Results

Students receive high school results from the NYC DOE Office of Enrollment based on Admissions Criteria and Application Order. The Office of Enrollment stresses that students who put down 12 choices and listed their Zoned school have the highest likelihood of getting a match. As we announced previously, there will be no Round 2 or appeals of high school admissions this year. Instead, all high school programs (except the nine Specialized High Schools) will have waitlists. Please understand it is appropriate to middle school development that students have strong feelings about their results and compare them with their peers. It is important to remind your child that no one is “rejected” from any school, to celebrate their individual strengths, interests, goals, and possibilities, and support their peers in doing the same. All students will receive a match. If your match was not listed on your original application, you will receive information regarding waitlists. Waitlists will open on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Students will be automatically added to the waitlist of any program that they listed higher on their application than the program where they received an offer. High Schools will notify parents of an acceptance off of the waitlist via MySchools, through a call/email to the family or a call/email to the child’s counselor if they cannot get in contact with the family. Families will have access in MySchools to view waitlist placements and have one week to respond to the high school if an offer is made from the waitlist. Families can add their child on waitlists to high schools that they did not put on their initial high school application. Please keep in mind that admission requirements still apply for screened and audition schools. It is important that families keep in mind that High Schools are managing waitlists. More information about waitlists can be found here (ENGLISH; SPANISH). Families who have more questions regarding waitlists or want to request to be added to waitlists can also email Waitlists@schools.nyc.gov. Please allow for 24 – 48 hours response time. Ms. Ortiz, and Ms. Munoz will be available for students to support processing their feelings associated with High School Results. We look forward to the variety of great places our 2020 class will go, and to support them in a great transition.
