Who are we? The mission of 82nd Street Academics is to assist students in the road to college, regardless of their home language, by complementing the public school system. We have been providing After School services for the last 19 years in Jackson Heights, Queens. With this wealth of experience, we are able to implement programs that are responsive to the needs of our students and that extend their learning after traditional school hours.

Why After School? We use a model that focuses on homework assistance and incorporates ongoing social emotional skills development. A motivational metaphor helps keep students on track and recognizes them for their hard work. These supports assist our students on their road to college, developing their self regulation, grit, persistence, and study skills. 

What's different this year? For families who are returning, you'll notice a few additions in the program this year. We are happy to announce that HPCMS teachers will be joining us for more periods throughout the afternoon to increase the connection between the day and after school programming. This will offer more intensive homework help, academic support, and increased consistency for students.

How can I register? Applications will be accepted until September 8th. Applications are available on our school website or can be picked up during summer office hours. Incoming grade 6 and 7th grade families can meet our staff, ask questions, receive and turn in their applications on the evening of September 6th at the potluck. After this, a lottery will be conducted and families will be notified if they have been accepted into the program or have been placed on the waiting list. Our new program will begin on September 13th. If you’d like more information or need an application, please email Andrea Ganchala at: Andrea.ganchala@82ndst.com. This program is free for all HPCMS students. Participation in last year's program does not guarantee a seat in this year's program. E-mail and mailing directions are at the end of the application.

When is the program open? Our first day will be the second day of school on Tuesday September 13th. We will begin directly after dismissal. The program will end at 5:30pm every day. Students must commit to the full program hours throughout the entire year in order to maintain their seat in the program.
